How the Rectangle Area & Volume Calculator Works
This calculator uses standard geometric formulas to calculate the area, perimeter, and volume of a rectangle. Enter the length and width in feet, and optionally add depth in inches to calculate volume in cubic yards.
Rectangle Area Formula
Area = Length × Width
Area is calculated by multiplying the length and width of the rectangle. The result is shown in square feet.
Rectangle Perimeter Formula
Perimeter = 2 × (Length + Width)
Rectangle Volume Formula
Volume (cubic yards) = (Length × Width × Depth in feet) ÷ 27
Depth is first converted from inches to feet, then volume is calculated in cubic feet and converted to cubic yards.
Example Rectangle Calculation
If a rectangle has a length of 3 feet, width of 2 feet, and depth of 4 inches:
• Area = 6 square feet
• Perimeter = 10 feet
• Volume ≈ 0.07 cubic yards
